SIPO Issued Statistics for the First Half of 2017 (2017-7)
According to statistics published by SIPO on July 20, 2017, during the first half of 2017, 565,000 patent invention applications were filed in China, representing a year-on-year growth of 6.1%. 209,000 patent inventions were granted, wherein 160,000 were domestic patent inventions. Among the domestic invention patents granted, there were 149,000 service inventions, accounting for 93.1%, and 11,000 non-service inventions, accounting for 6.9%.
During the first half of 2017, SIPO accepted 21,600 international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), which increased by 16% over the same period last year. Among the applications received, 20,000 were domestic, with a year-on-year growth of 15.3% and 1,600 from abroad, growing by 26.0% compared to the previous year.
During the first half of 2017, 15,865 requests for review were filed and 8,504 cases were closed; 2,064 invalid declarations were filed and 2,007 were closed. SIPO received 1,205 applications for integrated circuit layout design, of which 1,119 were issued certificates.
During the first half of 2017, there were 15,411 domestic patent administrative enforcement cases, which constituted a year-on-year growth of 23.3%. Among them, 8,837 were patent disputes (including 8,666 patent infringement disputes), representing a year-on-year growth of 26.3%; 6,574 patent counterfeiting cases were investigated, increasing by 19.5% compared to the previous year.
